The Doctors' Orchestra

A concert in aid of The Compassionate Friends

Jeux d’enfants – Petite suite
Symphony No. 3 (Eroica)

Stephan Loges
Stephen Brearley

The Doctors’ Orchestra’s aptly chosen programme for this fundraising concert juxtaposes Bizet’s sunny portrayals of children at play and Mahler’s poignant settings of poems by Rückert, written after the deaths of two of his children. These extraordinary songs succeed in offering both solace and hope in the midst of deepest grief.

Concluding the concert, Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony affirms the heroic capacity of the human spirit to overcome even the cruellest adversity.

‘Every parent’s worst nightmare is to lose a child’. This phrase may be a cliché but each year, for thousands of parents, the nightmare becomes a reality.
