- Oberon Overture
- Piano Concerto
- Symphony No. 6 (Pastoral)
- Alessandro Taverna
- Eduardo Portal
Medieval tales of Oberon, king of the fairies, sparked the imagination of many artistic geniuses including Carl Maria von Weber, whose opera Oberon unfolds dreamily with a ‘magic horn call’.
Another composer influenced by mythology and Scandinavian legend is Grieg, whose only piano concerto ranks among the most popular works ever written, performed tonight by the exhilarating pianist Alessandro Taverna.
Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, ‘Pastoral’, is the only symphony for which the composer wrote descriptive notes for each movement, such as ‘Merry Gathering of Country Folk’ and ‘Thunder, Storm’. It was originally titled ‘Recollections of Country Life’.
