Freddy Kempf piano recital

Piano Sonata in D, Op. 28 (Pastoral)
Polonaise in C minor, Op. 40 No. 2
Polonaise in F sharp minor, Op. 44
Grand Sonata in G, Op. 37

Freddy Kempf

Cadogan Hall is thrilled to welcome back the critically acclaimed pianist for a solo piano recital.

Beethoven’s gentle Op. 28 sonata, nicknamed the Pastoral due its relaxed character, opens the concert, followed by two of Chopin’s dark-hued Polonaises.

The virtuoso showpiece, the Grand Sonata, is one of Tchaikovsky’s masterworks, composed around the same time as his Violin Concerto and Fourth Symphony, though is performed far less often. Flashy and heroic in parts, meditative and radiant in others, the work shows off the composer’s gift for both lyricism and bravura writing.
