Kirill Karabits

Carl Philipp Emanuel – one of J.S. Bach’s 20 children – was one of the foremost composers of the 18th century, though now he is almost completely overshadowed by the reputation of his father. A composer in all sorts of genres, both sacred and secular, his setting of the St John Passion, long thought lost, was re-discovered a few years ago in a Ukrainian library.

In the year marking the 300th anniversary of C.P.E. Bach’s birth, tonight’s conductor Kirill Karabits performs his own new edition of this missing work, giving audiences an unmissable opportunity to hear a piece probably not heard since its first performance in 1784.
