- violin / director
Celebrated violinist Joshua Bell directs the orchestra from the leader’s chair, opening the concert with a performance of Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor.
Scored for clarinet, horn, bassoon and strings, the Beethoven Septet that follows is surprisingly symphonic in character. A light-hearted work in the spirit of the 18th century serenade, the work complements the vivacity that pervades the Seventh Symphony that follows, but contrasts with its unique, chamber-orientated instrumentation.
‘Splendidly alert performances, responding to every nuance in the music.’ (BBC Music Magazine)
